The ball went out!

Unlike basketball or football, in soccer a ball that touches the sideline is NOT out. The ball must completely cross the sideline to be out.

Ball in:out

The above applies for goals too. The ball must entirely cross the goal line to be a goal.

Also unlike basketball and football, the location of a player’s feet is irrelevant; players can step on or outside the sideline. All that matters is the ball’s location.

Note: In soccer, the sideline is called the “touch line”. The line along the goal is called the “goal line”.
